Helping companies, organizations and school districts address systemic trauma and inequity through a healing-centered approach.
Dismantle Oppressive Systems
Reclaim Your Identity
You are an organization that believes in equity and has a deep interest in dismantling oppressive cultures and developing equitable spaces for people of color.
The problem is, you struggle with establishing equitable goals that are TRULY inclusive of your team’s needs, and authentic to your organization’s culture.
I’m Jason Acosta
I am a social worker, facilitator and equity practitioner who believes in the power of healing. I strive to shift organizational culture in an effort to develop equitable and inclusive spaces for marginalized communities across companies, organizations, and educational institutions.
My purpose is to inspire systemic change by centering identity and healing as the foundation of transformation. My work is deeply personal to me: Having spent 18 years in foster care, I was confronted with many systemic barriers, including police brutality and educational inequity, as well as with the question of my own identity.
As a result, I pursued a path to social work and spent the early part of my career exploring, unpacking, and learning about the many complexities of identity and intersectionality in an effort to better understand the systemic challenges and trauma that impact communities of color.
As a proud native of the South Bronx, I am also a true advocate for educational reform.
My company provides programming, leadership development, and curriculum development that focuses on identity, community building, and organizational change with an eye to social justice.
We engage in critical dialogue and professional development that challenge you to deeply reflect on your identity and cultural upbringing. Feel empowered to show up as your authentic self and utilize your cultural assets as strengths.
Healing Centered Approach
We unpack narratives we have internalized by dominant culture, engage in the work to understand and develop who we really are, so that we can show up as our authentic selves, and thus creating inclusive spaces and communities.
After we have explored identity and achieved mindset shifts, the last step is to develop a strategy or curriculum to implement those changes in your organization or school.
There is nothing like feeling fully affirmed in who you truly are. As people of color, we come from an amazing lineage of ancestors who paved the way for us.
It is our duty to carry their legacy forward while reclaiming our own identity.
In this Brainwaves Anthology video, Jason discusses the power of identity. Understanding who you truly are can have a significant impact in the way we move through life. Jason emphasizes on the power of dominant culture as it can strip you away from your true identity, and he challenges us to ask the question: “Who am I?”
How will your organization benefit from this work?
The end results of our work together consist of mindset shifts, community building, and resources that encourage folks to show up as their whole selves, which often lends itself to greater performance in the workplace.
